| Ike Glatz studied
Fashion Design at Hamburg University and graduated in 2000 with honours. In addition to her studies, she has always worked as a freelance designer for various fashion labels and also got involved in the music business, doing styling and design for several artists and their video productions. During her studies and whilst working in the fashion industry for six years (as Fashion Designer and Fashion Illustrator), Ike became increasingly interested in more experimental, personal work. From 1997 onwards she completed several Masterclasses in Experimental Drawing (International Summer Academy Pentiment in Hamburg - Germany, in Rustrel - France and in Frankfurt – Germany), where she displayed her work in various group exhibitions. Slowly but surely Experimental Drawing became Ike´s main focus, besides exploring her new career as Graphic Designer since 2006 for her own design studio, “marc&line”. Not only can one find textile influences in Ike’s work, but also organically grown abstract lines, developed by movement, reactions and impulsive momentum, sometimes digitally cultivated and redeveloped in a very graphical style. Media used by Ike include pencils, markers, oil pastels, paper, fabric, her computer and her sewing machine. Ike traces down her topics by series. She doesn’t get attached to a certain idea, when she starts working, which leads her to surprisingly new ideas and outcomes she likes to experiment with – “experimenting with materials, shapes, lines and experimenting with myself – I work into the unknown, which is a very thrilling adventure…” Sometimes little querky creatures will arise… Ike moved to Bundeena with her family beginning of 2009 and enjoys the inspiring setting of this creative village. . |
