| Sue Hilton is an
emerging artist having completed the Fine Arts degree at The National
Art School (2005), majoring in painting. Prior to this
full time course, she completed the part time ceramic course at East
Sydney Technical College in the 1970’s, winter schools at ANU and
summer schools at Bathurst and Queensland in 1980-90s. Sue taught ceramics at the St George Pole Depot, a community workshop for 10 years, exhibiting ceramics in galleries across Sydney. In her other life Sue was a teacher and a child psychologist with a Diploma of Physical Education, Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Arts in Psychology. Her painting “The Struggle” was selected in the MVQ International Art Show 2006. She has won 3rd prize and a Highly Commended in drawing at Royal Easter Show in the past few years. She had two drawings selected in the 12 finalists in the Dymocks drawing competition in 2004. Sue’s work reflects her extensive background in psychology and working with severely disturbed students using art and craft therapy techniques. She completed that career by establishing a special school for such students. In working with groups and individuals for over 20 years she developed extensive insight into, and a very clear understanding of, human behaviour. Sue is attempting to use this knowledge in her painting and drawing to represent these understandings. Basically her figurative images aim to incorporate psychological elements by combining figures - using how figures sit in space and the relation of images to each other in that space that create a tension. Psychological situations are fluid so an ambiguous image is often the the result. Viewers will use their own background experience to determine their own understanding of the picture. Sue exhibits with 2 other artists each month in the Bundeena/Maianbar Art trail at Studio 12. |
