Casey Anne St John is an Australian ceramic artist based in Sydney, creating one-of-a-kind sculptural vessels by hand using traditional coil-building techniques. Her practice investigates devotion as both a creative process and a human experience, asking whether sustained attention, labour and care can imbue an object with a sense of presence long after its making is complete.

Influenced by architecture, ornament, mythology and the natural world, her work draws upon vessels as enduring symbols of memory, transformation and human connection. Moths, beetles, birds, snakes and botanical forms recur throughout her sculptures, reflecting a fascination with the intelligence of the living world and the cycles of change shared by all life.

Before discovering ceramics, Casey worked as both a jillaroo and shearer in remote Australia—experiences that shaped her relationship with landscape, repetition, endurance and manual labour. These values continue to underpin her practice today, where every vessel is built coil by coil and finished entirely by hand.

She completed a Diploma of Ceramics in 2019, receiving the Award of Highest Excellence, and has since exhibited in a number of group exhibitions, including as a finalist in the National Emerging Art Prize 2024.
